Google Account Activity Beta

Today while I visited my GMail's account section I found a link under my Profile picture about activating "Account Activity". So I clicked the link and activated it. Now I see a "more" link beside the "Account Activity" section under my Profile picture. When I click it I can see how many email I received, how many email I sent and many other details.

Here is what Google says about Account Activity:

Google Account Activity creates monthly reports on your usage of Google products. Depending on which products you use, you can see how many emails you've sent, who your most popular contacts are, what searches you've performed, or what computers you've used to sign in. Account Activity Reports are a great way to help ensure that your account is safe and to understand your use of Google products.

Signing up for Account Activity

You can opt to receive an Account Activity Report by going to the Products tab on your Account Settings page and clicking Account Activity, or by visiting https://www.google.com/settings/activity. Once you opt in, you’ll receive an email from noreply-accountactivity@google.com letting you know when your new report is ready. Just click the link provided in the email to access your report.

Understanding your Account Activity Report

At the top of your report are tabs where you can select the report period for which you’d like to view the activity. For example, if you use Gmail, you can check out your most emailed contacts from previous months. You can also choose to delete an entire month’s report by clicking on the trash icon at the top.

When you hover over the subsections for each product, you’ll see helpful links that point to places like the particular product’s settings or FAQs. You might also see tooltips – small round buttons with question marks – that will provide clarifying information.

If you use the following products, you should see them in your Account Activity Report:
  • Gmail
  • Latitude
  • Picasa Web Albums
  • Web History
  • YouTube

Account Activity Reports and your security

You can use your reports to help make sure your account has not been broken into. In particular, you can look for the following account activity as a sign that someone might have hijacked your account:
  • Access from an unusual geographic location
  • Access from a computer, device, or browser that you do not use
  • A sudden and dramatic increase in the number of emails sent
If you think your account has been hijacked and you have access to your account, reset your password immediately. If you don't have access to your account, visit the Google Account recovery form.

Data deletion

Account Activity frequently collects and summarizes data from your account. Data you delete (for example, if you delete your Web History) will still show up in your report if it's recorded by Account Activity prior to deletion. You can delete your reports at any time.

Pausing your Account Activity Reports

If you'd like to pause or stop the generation of future reports, click Settings from the gear icon at the top of your report. From there, check the box next to "Pause report generation."

Known Issues

Report shows incorrect number of sent emails
If you're using a custom SMTP server with Gmail or if you're sending emails through an alias, your Account Activity Report might not reflect the correct number of the emails you've sent.

"Most contacted" section isn't showing up
This section has been removed.

Unused browsers might appear on your report
Some apps, like Picasa, render the Google sign-in page by using components of another browser. If you’re using any of these apps to sign in, you might see a browser you haven’t used with your Google Account listed on your Account Activity Report.

Latitude dashboard data shows up in wrong Account Activity report period
Account Activity may display your Latitude data on an earlier or later report, depending on when you started using Account Activity. For example, if you started Account Activity on a Wednesday, you may not see Latitude data from Tuesday, even though that information is included in your Latitude dashboard. You'll see the Latitude information from Tuesday in the following Account Activity Report.
